We take three key steps to make ridesharing with Kangaride safer.
1. Driver’s license validation
After drivers sign up, we validate their driver’s license with the applicable transportation authority (for Quebec and Ontario).
2. Ratings by Kangaride members
As a driver or passenger member, you can rate each and every ride you give or take with Kangaride. Passengers are evaluated on their courtesy and punctuality, while drivers are rated on the comfort and safety of the ride, their courtesy, and their punctuality. Drivers’ overall ratings are visible to passengers before booking.
3. Quality control
We take our members’ feedback very seriously! Our agents collect and process the ratings that members fill out online or by phone and proactively contact a new driver's first passengers to hear their comments. This allows us to do an immediate follow-up if necessary.
Kangaride is a ridesharing platform that puts drivers and passengers in contact to share the road and the travel costs for medium- and long-distance car trips. Kangaride can be used for travel all over Canada and the USA as a fun, inexpensive and sustainable way to travel!
Ridesharing is when a driver and passengers meet to share a vehicle and the travel costs on a trip to a shared destination. According to transportation laws, ridesharing implies a trip completed on a route, where only the transportation costs are shared and that no additional compensation is required. Specifically, a driver posting a rideshare also has the need to take this trip and to personally go to the destination, even if they have no passengers . Passenger transport is incidental to the voyage and not the primary purpose of it . Passengers contribute to compensate the driver for use of the vehicle, such as the sharing of gas costs.

Anyone who is interested in ridesharing and who agrees to follow our Terms of Service is welcome to use Kangaride! The identity and/or driver's license of each one of our members has been verified by a member of our customer service team. Read what Kangaride members say about us here!
Please note that Kangaride does not employ drivers. The monetary amount collected by drivers goes only toward the cost of operating their vehicle for the length of the trip.

Each driver chooses the price for his or her ride. Since factors like the driver’s vehicle, the price of gas, the number of passengers in the vehicle and the route chosen can vary, we feel it’s important to give drivers this flexibility.
For more info, see our Terms of Service.

It's very important to note that we do not send notifications to let you know if you have passengers!
To see who your passengers are, you must check directly through your Kangaride account. Don't forget to note down the names and contact info for you passengers.
You must also let us know that you checked the final version of your passengers list by closing your ride before you leave. By clicking the yellow button on the ride page, you let us know that you know who your passengers are and you're ready to start your ride.
If you don’t have internet access, just give us a call and we’ll close your ride for you.
Yes, absolutely! Ratings from community members like you are an essential part of making Kangaride reliable. By answering a few questions after your ride, you can help new passengers establish a good rating in their account. If you weren’t happy with something, let us know as soon as possible and we’ll follow up.
We understand that unforeseen circumstances sometimes come up and that you may need to cancel a ride. We ask that you let us know at least 24 hours in advance, whenever possible, so we can do our best to find the passengers another ride.
Please note that all cancellations must be made by phone at 1-855-526-4274. We will let your passengers know about the cancellation for you. We’re here for you from 9 AM to 8 PM, seven days a week. If you have to cancel outside of our opening hours, we would ask that you please call us anyway and leave a voicemail on our answering machine. Our agents will take into account the time you called when we begin checking the messages starting at 8am the following day.
You can post up to five rides at once. However, you can only post one round trip per day.
Good meeting points are easily accessible to passengers and drivers, located near public transport and with an area to wait inside. If you’re unsure of where to meet, consult our list of established meeting points, rated by our users, to help you choose an appropriate spot.
It is your responsibility to ensure that the contribution requested from each passenger, multiplied by the number of occupants in the car (yourself included), does not exceed the amount required to repay the expenses incurred in using you vehicle. Otherwise, your use of the service does not fall into the category of rideshare as defined by the law*. The guidelines for eligible expenses when traveling, as indicated by the Canadian Revenue Agency, state that the employee may use his personal vehicle for the purposes of displacement and should receive, for any distance during the same fiscal year, compensation established as follows: $ 0.54 / km for the first 5,000 kilometers driven; $ 0.48 / km for all subsequent kilometers traveled. It is therefore a maximum not to be exceeded.
*It is important to mention here that, since it is up to the driver to decide the contribution from their passengers, as outlined in the Terms of Service, the company may need to disclose personal information that could identify any offending driver and the history of their departures to the required authorities in the case of a subpoena, court order or legal process.
This is up to you, though the vast majority of drivers accept the payment once the ride is over.
There are a few ways to do so. First, make sure that your meeting point and drop-off points are practical and easily accessible to passengers.
If your trip is long, consider adding meeting and drop-off points in intermediate destinations. For example, make Kingston a stop on a ride between Toronto and Montreal. Then passengers can book for the whole trip or only the segment that they need.
One of the most important criteria is the price you're asking. Lowering your price by a few dollars will increase the likelihood that more passengers book with you.
As a new driver, don’t hesitate to remind your passengers to rate the ride after it’s over! The ratings passengers leave for you are combined into your overall rating, which is visible to passengers before booking.
The first thing you should do is give us a call at 1-855-526-4274 after waiting for about five minutes. We will try to contact the missing passenger to help them find you. We ask that you be able to wait up to 10 minutes past the original departure time. Before leaving, it's important to call us a final time to confirm the passenger's absence so we can do a follow-up with them.
We ask that you stay informed of forecasted weather conditions that may affect car travel when you're thinking of posting a ride. If you're not certain that you'll be making the trip, we advise that you do not post it. We ask for a minimum 24 hours' notice when cancelling a ride, which gives us enough time to find another ride for your passengers.
No. By posting a ride, you are agreeing to do the ride according to the criteria that you choose when you published the ride.
You can't share your driver account. If someone you know wants to use Kangaride, you can refer them for a free trial membership!

We don't provide a list of passenger ride requests, because we operate on the principle that drivers post rides that they have to do in any case, and passengers can take advantage of a posted ride if it's convenient for them. The best way to find a the ride you need is to use our email notification tool.

No, it’s not necessary. Your driver has access to their list of passengers through their Kangaride account. Most drivers share their phone number or email address with passengers who have booked a seat with them, so you'll be able to contact the driver directly If you want to confirm something specific before the ride. If the driver prefers not to share their contact info, simply call us and we will contact them on your behalf.
We understand that unforeseen circumstances sometimes come up and that you may need to cancel a ride. We ask that you let us know at least 24 hours in advance so that we can make the seat available for another passenger. With 24 hours notice, we will return your booking credit to your account up to three times during your year of membership. You can then use it to book a different ride that works better for you. (Please note that we can’t refund any credits for cancellations made less than 24 hours ahead.)
Please note that all cancellations must be made online from the reservation page in your account. In the event of a booking error, or if the driver has informed you of a departure cancellation, please call us at 1-855-526-4274. If you have to cancel outside of opening hours, please call us anyway and leave a message on our voicemail.
Each driver chooses the price for his or her ride. The total contribution received by the driver may not exceed the cost of operating the vehicle for the length of the trip. For more info, see our Terms of Service. The price chosen will vary slightly based on the type of vehicle, the price of gas, and the chosen route.
